November grants for local and community projects announced
Harlington Hospice and Moorcroft School will both benefit from grants from Hillingdon Community Trust agreed in the most recent round of funding. Harlington Hospice will receive £38,900 over two years to expand recreation facilities for people with life-limiting illnesses, Moorcroft School will receive £38,000 for specially adapted minibus to enable pupils with severe special need to access the community programme and I-Serv will receive a grant of £15,950 to provide advice, sign-posting and support for refugees to access employment
The grant to Harlington Hospice is made following a very successful pilot project funded by the Trust late in 2006. Elaine Fearnside, Chief Executive of Harlington Hospice commented, ‘We are delighted that HCT will be continuing to fund the project for a second year. The project has enabled us to engage two artists to work with clients of the Hospice on group art projects. Many of the clients have done no art-related activities since their school days (if at all) and have been surprised at how the activity has given their visits to the Hospice greater focus and enabled them to cope better with their illness.’ Small grants provided by the Trust include £5,685 to West Drayton Boys’ Club in Cherry Lane for a ball catcher, £3,000 to Sandgate Football Club for new tables and chairs for its newly refurbished club area, £5,325 to Sustrans to complete a feasibility study of a network of traffic-free walking and cycling routes within the southern six wards of Hillingdon and £1,535 to Sipson Community Association to refurbish the hall floor to allow and improve use by pre-school groups and others. Six organisations were asked to submit Stage 2 applications for main grants. So far this year, the Trust has allocated over £700,000 in grants to community and voluntary groups for the benefit of residents in the southern six wards of Hillingdon. |
