Guru Nanak Nursery School
Children at Guru Nanak Primary School in Springfield Road Hayes will be able to grow their own vegetables and plants as a result of a £5,000 grant from Hillingdon Community Trust to buy a greenhouse and develop the environmental area in the school grounds. The greenhouse, which is fitted with safety glass to protect the children, is fully fitted with blinds so that plants can survive through weekends and in holidays. Kiren Jhaj , Head of science commented, ‘We want to encourage young people to form responsible attitudes towards the environment and to grow plants and vegetables. The new greenhouse will enrich a number of curriculum areas – science, biology, food technology, art and personal and social education.’
The school plans to make planting, growing and maintenance schemes for the greenhouse and the development of the sensory garden area part of class projects.
